Bio

Growing up as a fan of The Beatles, Makarevich let his band Mashina Vremeni be hugely inspired by classic rock and blues. However, music in the band has always been written by all the members resulting in a unique mix of rock, blues and a sprinkle of jazz in their songs. However, Makarevich is the only writer of lyrics in the band. Mashina Vremeni experienced its golden era in the 1980s and 90s starting with their winning the main award at the festival "Spring Rhythms 80" and culminating with a huge 30-year anniversary concert in the main stadium of "sport-complex Olympiyskiy" in Moscow. The band itself became a great influence on rock music in the former USSR just like the childhood heroes of Makarevich – The Beatles.

In addition to his main band, Makarevich released eight solo albums, participated in a number of various TV shows and worked with other groups and artists. He wrote several poetry collections and two volumes of memoirs, as well as expressed interested in painting.

Makarevich is also a prominent supporter of human rights, as can be witnessed by his receiving the Dr.Rainer Hildebrandt Human Rights Award endowed by Alexandra Hildebrandt. This is an award given annually in recognition of extraordinary, non-violent commitment to human rights.
